LET ME ROLL IT - RIFF
Written by Paul McCartney

This chart will focus on the signature riff which carries the song.
The riff is notated incorrectly in the published sheet music.

Time signature is 6/8
The riff starts on Beat-2 and ends on Beat-6

         /----3----\
   1 2 n a 3 4 5 6
E|-------2--h3--p2p0-2-----0-----------------|
B|-------2--h3--p2p0-2-----0-----2-----0-----|
G|-------------------------------2-----0-----|
D|-------------------------------------------|
A|-------------------------------------------|
E|-------------------------------------------|

Beat-2 has a complex embellishment.
In order to properly understand the timing break it down to basics.

STEP ONE
Consider only the 8th-note melody.
Two notes sounding together is called a dyad.
All of these notes are played with the index finger.
All are picked with downstrokes.
The phrasing is not-quite legato (connected). Each dyad
is picked almost simultaneously as the strings are fretted.

   1 2 3 4 5 6
E|-------2-----2-----0-----------------|
B|-------2-----2-----0-----2-----0-----|
G|-------------------------2-----0-----|
D|-------------------------------------|
A|-------------------------------------|
E|-------------------------------------|

STEP TWO
Introduce the 16th-note-triplet on Beat-2.
A hammer-on and a pull-off played with the middle finger.

         /----3----\
   1 2 n a 3 4 5 6
E|-------2--h3--p2---2-----0-----------------|
B|-------2--h3--p2---2-----0-----2-----0-----|
G|-------------------------------2-----0-----|
D|-------------------------------------------|
A|-------------------------------------------|
E|-------------------------------------------|

STEP THREE
Final riff includes a pull-off (32nd-note) to the open strings.

         /----3----\
   1 2 n a 3 4 5 6
E|-------2--h3--p2p0-2-----0-----------------|
B|-------2--h3--p2p0-2-----0-----2-----0-----|
G|-------------------------------2-----0-----|
D|-------------------------------------------|
A|-------------------------------------------|
E|-------------------------------------------|

There is probably not much value in practising this too slowly.
It should sound like a spontaneous burst of energy.
