written by J. Mellencamp
From the album "Big Daddy"

INTRO: Em C Am (2x)

VERSE 1:
Em C Am
Country gentleman walked a crooked mile
Em C Am
Got our money in his pocket
Em C Am
Did it all with a very handsome smile
Em C Am
Now he's livin it up in a great big office

CHORUS 1:
D C G
He ain't a-gonna help no poor man
D C G
He ain't a-gonna help no poor man
D C G
He ain't a-gonna help no poor man
D C G (let ring)
He's just gonna help his rich friends

INTRO

CHORUS 2:

He ain't a-gonna help no women
He aint a-gonna help no children
He's just gonna help his rich friends

VERSE 2:

Country gentleman we see him on TV
Glad handin' folks and chattin' with the nation
We never knew what really to believe
Just word upon slogan with emotional connection

VERSE 3:

And in the papers all we'd ever read is
So and so big-shot signed his resignation
Now country gentleman he wants us to believe
That he's kind and honest with the best intentions

CHORUS 3:

He ain't a-gonna help no poor man
He ain't a-gonna help no children
He ain't a-gonna help no women
He's just gonna help his rich friends

SOLO

VERSE 4:

Country gentleman now there's a bird that flew
High above this nation prayed on its weakness
Picked our bones and threw it in his strew
Thank God he went back to California

Hi. I have told you before how much I appreciate and use your tabs! So, thank you. On this one, though, I think I may have something to add (for once!). How about this progression:

INTRO: Em, C, G, D (strumming each chord a few times)

(Em) He ain't a gonna (G) help no (D) poor man...and so on.

SOLO in between verses: Em (hammer on and off open-Em) then G, D

Thanks

Shane
