"The Whale" was written by an Aus duo Terry Fielding and Fred Dyer
in 1972 even though it topped the charts that year it`s never played on
the Oldies Radio or as a flashback. Whenever we played it we were always
asked about the song or requested to play it again,,, it`s also a great
party favorite.. The song is about Captain Ahab and Moby Dick (The White Whale)
Hear it on Youtube (The Whale Fielding and Dyer)

Am G Am
They sailed from port one morning when the weather it was fair
                                   G Am
A gentle breeze it pushed them and no one gave a care
                          Am7 D E
They sang and danced and laughed that night and opened up a keg
        Am G
They're out to catch the monster whale that took the captain's ....

Am G Am
The Captain said "a piece of gold for he who sees my whale"
                                      G Am
So bend your backs and row me lads I know that we won't fail
Am G Am
So bend your backs and row me lads and take me to me whale.
                               G Am
Tonight we sing and dance and tomorrow night we sail.
                     Am7 D E
We`ll sail into the harbour no prouder men there'll be

We'll show them all we captured the monster from the ....

Am G Am
They saw the whale one morning when the weather it was fair
                                       G Am
The men were white as ghosts, but the Captain didn't care
                       Am7 D E
I'll take this whale myself he said the weak can stay behind
     Am G
The strong can share my glory and tonight they'll share my ...

Di Di Di Di Da Di De Di Di

    Am G Am
The whale it came up closer it was bigger than the sky
                                         G Am
They lowered down the longboat and they heard the captain cry
Am G Am
Oh bend your backs and row me lads and take me to me whale.
                               G Am
Tonight we sing and dance and tomorrow night we sail.

Di Di Di Di Da Di De Di Di

    Am G Am
The whale it came so close that it almost tipped the boat
                                     G Am
The captain raised his spear and he rammed it down its throat
                     Am7 D E
The whale it gave a mournfull cry and lifted it's great tail
    Am G
And brought it down a smashing their small boat as if in a gale?

(SPOKEN)
Am G Am
A hundred years have passed since the Captain and his men
                                  G Am
Went below to spend their days in Davy Joneses' den
                      Am7 D E
The whale it goes on living but inside it wears a scar
Am G
And if you're ever near that place a voice calls from afar

Am G Am
Bend your backs and row me lads and take me to me whale.
                               G Am
Tonight we sing and dance and tomorrow night we sail.
                    Am7 D E
We`ll sail into the harbour no prouder men there'll be
      Am G Am
We'll show them all we captured the monster from the sea
      Am G Am
We'll show them all we captured the monster from the sea
      Am G Am
We'll show them all we captured the monster from the sea
Am G Am
Show them all we captured the monster from the sea.
